World No. 8 Andy Roddick had to like his chances coming into his quarter-final match against No. 18 seed Tommy Robredo at the BNP Paribas Open.

The top American had dropped just one set in his 10 previous meetings with the Spaniard, and he showed no signs of letting up Friday afternoon, defeating Robredo 6-3, 7-5 at the ATP World Tour Masters 1000 tennis tournament in Indian Wells.

Roddick made identical finishes to both sets, serving each out at love after converting on his only break point of the set in the previous game. He finished the match with an impressive mark behind his first serve, winning 35 of 36 points.

“I felt pretty good,” said Roddick, who has held 41 of 42 service games during the tournament. “I feel like I'm playing really well on my own serve. I think I've been broken once, but I don't know that I've had that many break points against me throughout the week. That's always a good thing in that holding that easily makes my returns better.”

The 27 year old is now through to the semi-finals for the fourth time at the BNP Paribas Open, but will look to reach the final for the first time. He lost to Lleyton Hewitt at this stage in 2005, and to eventual champion Rafael Nadal in 2007 and ’09.

“I hear a lot of those stats of how many times you played in the semi here and there, and it just makes me feel old now,” Roddick said with a laugh. “I'd like to get to the first final and try to win here once. It's about the only place in the North American swing that I haven't won before, so that would be nice.”

The Austin, Texas, resident has captured the title at the other three ATP World Tour Masters 1000 tournaments on North American soil. He won Miami in 2004, Montreal in 2003, and Cincinnati in 2003 and ’06.

He will next face World No. 7 Robin Soderling, who knocked out 2009 finalist Andy Murray in straight sets in his quarter-final match. Roddick dropped his two previous meetings against the 25-year-old Swede, losing in 2008 at Memphis and Lyon, but this will be their first encounter on outdoor hard courts.
