Roger Federer has never seen a press conference quite like this one. The interview room at the BNP Paribas Open was packed and the atmosphere was one of nervous anticipation as the first question was posed to the 18-time Grand Slam champion and four-time winner in Indian Wells.
"What is your coolest move?"
On Friday, more than 50 second-graders from nearby Gerald R. Ford Elementary School experienced a field trip like no other, when they congregated for the first-ever Kids-Only Press Conference on the grounds of the Indian Wells Tennis Garden. Each student had the opportunity to lob a query at Federer, and the questions didn’t disappoint.
Nor did Federer's answers, as he covered a range of topics from his childhood pets (two rabbits named Blitz and Blacky), to dance floor moves, to being a good sport -- and even went toe-to-toe with the class when one precocious student challenged him to a push-up contest.
