"[Kuznetsova] is a great player, lots of experience and for sure she will love the conditions here with the bouncy courts,' said Garcia after the match. "I have to be really aggressive and put as much pressure on her and not let her dictate with her forehand."

On Stadium 4, the day opened with a marathon between Timea Bacsinszky of Switzerland and Kiki Bertens of the Netherlands. Bacsinszky saved six match points and needed four of her own to record the 6-3, 5-7, 7-6(8) victory in three hours and 21 minutes. The winner plays either No. 3 Karolina Pliskova vs. Irina-Camelia Begu for a spot in the quarterfinals.
